Derby Time

This was Nate's first year for the Pinewood Derby. He was very excited as all our boys have been. He picked the design for his car from a speed racer match box car that we had. He and Shane then cut it out using a Dremel for detail. Nate sanded it all and held the blow dryer so the paint would dry faster. Just because we've done this year after year, doesn't mean we don't wait till four days before the race to start the car.It was white with two blue stripes and some graphite rubbed over it for a cool silver look.
With about ten cars under his belt, Shane has just about mastered the derby car. He fixes the wheels so they get maximum speed, then shines the axles so there is no friction, then packs both with graphite for maximum speed.
This year Nate won the fastest in his den. He came in second over all. (The car that was faster than his had wheels that were pro made and ordered in. It's the tiny black one.) He did awesome. It is so much fun to see the boys be proud of something they made.

Shane is such a great Dad. He makes it fun for each boy and teaches them how its done. We love him TONS. Great job Nate!! Thanks Dad!

  1. If our boys ever do scout stuff, we may have to commission Shane to build the car; we will fail something fierce! Well done men- Congrats Nate!
